What is BSME?
The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) is a four-year engineering degree program focused on the study, design, development, operation, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems and machinery used in industries, manufacturing plants, transportation systems, power generation facilities, and thermal systems. The program aims to develop technically competent, socially responsible, and globally competitive mechanical engineers.
The program operates under CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 97, series of 2017 entitled “Policies, Standards and Guidelines for the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) Program,” effective Academic Year 2018–2019. The program likewise adheres to the Outcomes-Based Education framework and quality assurance systems mandated by CHED.
The curriculum provides students with strong foundations in mathematics, physics, engineering sciences, thermodynamics, machine design, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, manufacturing processes, materials engineering, industrial plants, and energy systems. Laboratory work, plant visits, practicum, research, and design projects are incorporated to strengthen technical and practical competencies.
Graduates are qualified to take the Mechanical Engineer Licensure Examination administered by the PRC. Career opportunities include mechanical engineer, plant engineer, manufacturing engineer, HVAC engineer, maintenance engineer, design engineer, automotive engineer, energy systems engineer, project engineer, and positions in manufacturing industries, energy sectors, construction companies, transportation industries, and government institutions.
