The establishment of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Maragondon Campus was made possible through the vision of Dr. Nemesio E. Prudente and Mayor Teodorico C. Ramirez, who aimed to provide accessible and quality higher education to the people of Maragondon and nearby municipalities. The campus was officially established through a groundbreaking ceremony on January 29, 1987, and the buildings were formally turned over on July 6, 1987, marking the beginning of PUP-Maragondon Extension.
Since then, Polytechnic University of the Philippines Maragondon Campus has expanded its academic programs, facilities, and community services. The campus became known for producing board passers in Accountancy, Engineering, and Education, while students also excelled in academic, cultural, entrepreneurial, and sports competitions. Partnerships with local government units, private organizations, and alumni helped improve classrooms, laboratories, and other campus facilities.
Under the leadership of various campus directors, the institution strengthened its research culture, international linkages, and community extension programs. It also gained recognition from Commission on Higher Education for supporting internationalization initiatives, including participation in the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program through the Fulbright Commission. Today, PUP Maragondon continues to provide community-oriented and globally responsive education while producing competent professionals and responsible citizens.
